How can the metals industry reduce emissions while strengthening competitiveness? Electrification creates new opportunities, but the business case also depends on how energy is purchased, controlled, and utilized in production.
In this presentation, Ola Axelsson will explore how industrial heating technologies and digital optimization can work together to make the green transition profitable. Drawing on practical industrial examples, he will present approaches to the electrification of high-temperature furnaces, partial electrification of combustion processes, and flexible heating solutions.
The presentation will also show how data, AI, and advanced process control can help reduce power peaks, adapt production to fluctuating electricity prices, and improve energy efficiency and process stability. Simulation and operator training will demonstrate how companies can support implementation and develop the competence needed to capture these opportunities.
The focus is on practical applications and business value: lower energy costs, reduced emissions, and more efficient use of existing production assets and electrical capacity.
This is a joint event organized by the Swedish and Finnish Metal & Mining Associations (SBF and VMY), following the same format as previous Bergsmansafton webinars.

Ola Axelsson is Managing Director of Ferroman Engineering AB, with two decades of industrial experience spanning production, technology, and leadership. Prior to joining Ferroman, he held several senior positions at Uddeholm, most recently as Vice President Technology & Innovation, with responsibility for automation, digitalization, energy management, and investment strategy.
His experience includes developing AI and process optimization initiatives and advancing the transition toward fossil-free steel production. At Ferroman, he focuses on combining industrial engineering expertise with electrification and digital solutions to create measurable customer value.
