The EUs list of critical raw materials currently includes some 34 minerals of which 9 are strategic. Iron ore is not one of them. Iron ore has one of the highest rankings on economic importance but, according to the European Commission, the supply risk is low. Is this a fair assessment? Because there are differences between iron ores and iron ores. What is an appropriate iron ore for a blast furnace may not be appropriate in a green steel direct reduction environment. What if iron ore were to be differentiated by quallity – would that change the outcome of the assessment and label iron ore as a critical raw material?
This is a joint event organized by the Swedish and Finnish Metal & Mining Associations (SBF and VMY).

About the speaker:
Mineral Economist and one of the founders of RMG Consulting an independent consultancy to the mining sphere. Since the early 2000s he has analysed and scrutinized the mining market as a consultant for various companies within the private sector, including mining and exploration firms, equipment suppliers, financial institutions and various NGOs. He has also worked with various divisions of international organizations such as UN, the World Bank, IMF, and the EU. Furthermore, he’s worked with stakeholders from various government institutions in the Scandinavian region, Southern Africa and the ASEAN region.
Anton frequently writes and publishes in various international industry magazines. He has been involved in research on topics related to, amongst others, the iron ore market, Chinese control of minerals, commodity trading and tax related questions, future demand of metals, etc. He is part of the Editorial Executive Group of the academic journal Mineral Economics where he is also the book review editor.
